Smart Keys
The key fob that was included with the key fob that came with your Nissan is a crucial part of the car's advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronics to unlock doors and begin the engine. It also comes with a convenient design, making it easy to carry in your pocket. A key fob also offers convenience features, such as locking out protection that ensures you won't wander out of the vehicle with keys inside.
Smart keys are wireless unlike the previous models which required you to insert the key into the ignition slot in order to access your vehicle's internal systems. Nissan detects when you come close to your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This may include opening or locking the doors, lowering and raising the tailgate, or even starting the engine.
Some smart key models come with a valet key hidden in the metal. This key can be pulled out from an opening on the back of the Smart Key fob to secure the trunk or glove box before handing it over to the valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.
It is possible to replace the batteries on your Nissan Intelligent Key fob if it's not working as it should. The owner's manual will offer instructions on how to change the batteries in most fobs.
Intelligent Key Fob
Nissan Intelligent Key Fobs enable you to open the doors of your car and start the engine with the touch of a button. You can also control the music on your smartphone so you don't have to leave your car.
Intelligent Key Fobs include an antenna in them that transmits an alert to your vehicle when you push a button or come close to it. Once your vehicle is aware of this signal, it will activate the system, unlocking doors or locking them, starting the engine, as well as opening the trunk. If you want to test out the fob, stand at a distance from your vehicle and click the buttons. If the lights flash, or the horn sounds, then you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.

Lockout Protection
Lockout protection helps eliminate nuisance lockouts caused due to impedance relay failure. This option is only available to vehicles with the Smart Key system or through the personalization menu on the vehicle.
Many serious accidents have occurred due to an equipment started running when it was supposed to shut off for repairs or maintenance. These accidents are usually the result of energy that hasn't been released properly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems help to prevent these accidents by making sure that machines remain completely off until a person authorized releases them.
The LOTO system is comprised of a number of locks, tags and other devices that are used to secure, isolate or shut off the machine from electrical sources. All "affected", "authorized" and "qualified" personnel must be trained on the use of lockout and tagout devices. These devices include but not limited to locks, chains padlocks, wedges adapter pins and self-locking fasteners. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, including the date and the time it was put in use along with the name and title of the person who is authorized, and the purpose of the lockout/tagout (repairs, maintenance and so on.). It should be clear that these devices cannot be removed until a thorough LOTO procedure has been carried out.
